resound (Dunmurry) http://www.resound.cd/?do=blog The story of resound, an emerging faith community in Dunmurry, Northern Ireland, brought to you as it unfolds. en-gb http://blogs.law.harvard.edu/tech/rss rtCMS website@resound.cd ryan@rtnetworks.net resound.cd A wee catch up http://www.resound.cd/index.php?do=blog&postid=65 Howdy Reader!

My Second blog ever…. Here we go.

It is September! Yay! Always a crazy month. It’s the time of year when everything is thrown up in the air and you have to catch it again. With summer everything is that bit more relaxed, chilled, flexible. When the annual working year hits in we are naturally required to become more disciplined and focused. My guess would be because of routine. School, University, Work etc, its routine…. This has a point.

So I quickly scanned out website checking if there had been any updates on actually how our summer went and I couldn’t find any and I need it for a later point. So……

Bodybuilders Kids Club (P1 –  5th Year) – Week One

Can only be described Awesome. The turn out was colossal. The reaction from the parents and community was unbelievable. The visible outcome was exciting. And most importantly over 400 people walked away with affected one way or another by God himself, parents and children/teens.

Bodybuilders Extra (1st – 5th Year) – Week Two

I think any leader present that week can confidently say God was present and the reaction from the adolescences themselves was encouraging. We had over 100 teenagers from age 13 to 16, came for 7 hours every day for 7 days, who willingly came eager to take their own relationships with God to the next level. Some walked away stronger in their faith than ever before, others with just a nagging question in the back of there mind and of course some didn’t feel any different. But God was there and each and everyone who was there, was there for some reason… or so I choose to believe.
Because the reaction from everyone on the second week. It was decided that mentor groups etc, would be set up as spiritual support, to those who wanted it, which leads me to the point of this whole blog.

Resound – Saturday Night.

Resound has been constant for the last 4/5 years. Every Saturday night with maybe a very rare exception, it is there. A drop in centre open for any young person to come and socialise with each other, leaders, watch TV, play snooker, table tennis, watch x factor, Britain’s got talent, eat from the tuck shop or most importantly it’s a place where they can go a step further with God.

From the end of Bodybuilders we have seen an awesome and steady increase in numbers of attendance. Being a bit of a pessimist I must admit I thought it would only last a week or two, that it was only the excitement of BB that was keeping it fuelled but thankfully I’m being proved wrong. For a month now, Resound has been Epic.

A constant concern has always been the enthusiasm on the leader’s behalf. Weekly for a year with no breaks can take its toll but since BB that hasn’t seemed to be a problem. We have a strong team each individual and strong in their own way, we each contribute uniquely to Resound and it wouldn’t be what it is today without them. (First paragraph links here) Also because it’s back into the work year, there’s always a lot to do, in every aspect of our lives. So everything gets hectic and we kinda have to balance everything out, setting up cells, sorting out general set ups for the year etc.

We had not two weeks ago, a ‘Back to School’ Disco. With proper DJ’s, fruit cocktails, strobe lights, smoke, the lot. The place was buzzing. Of course we had some disturbances such as fire alarm, but nothing that made it any less exciting.

Last week was equally incredible. Roughly same numbers, without the flashing lights and pounding music –  just lots of conversation. Is what Resound does best.  It’s what anyone does best talk about the thing you love the most. In our case the dude in the clouds, God.

One thing I can say confidently that I don’t say enough. Each teen who walks through our door. Is precious to God. The amount of times they have made me laugh or challenged my conscious, sometimes I find them more helpful to me than I should be to them. Every Teen and leader comes from different backgrounds, there is such a range, such a variety that makes Resound what it is. The relationships built on the nights are unique, supportive. The teens are no angels, (nor are the leaders) but everyone plays an equal part.

At the moment Resound is thriving. And my point is everyone has a place, it wouldn’t be the same without ‘the Goths’ or ‘Girly Girls’ and that’s the class thing I’ve noticed the last month. Resound is a place for anyone…… anyone. Whither we have 5 or 200 teens. It’s a safe and constructive place other than home and that’s because of God.

And that’s all I have to say.

Until next time,

God Bless, Fay xx

. http://www.resound.cd/index.php?do=blog&postid=64 We all have our problems
Some BIG, some are small
Soon all of our problems
Will be taken by the cross

Black day, stormy night
No love, no hope in sight
Don't cry 4 He is coming
Don't die without knowing the cross

Where To Start?! http://www.resound.cd/index.php?do=blog&postid=63 Since the last blog post a LOT has happened. Summer Madness, Bodybuilders and Black Belts Extra. That's it.

Wait... That doesn't seem like that much. It needs to be unravelled before hyou can realise the enormity of what happened; especially during Bodybuilders andf Black Belts Extra. I don't quite have t5he time to tell you all about it right now; but believe me when I say that God was present, big time. We've taken to rethinking how we do everything, Talk of new cell groups, mentoring and other things have been getting people excited. The prospect of a new wave of passionate young Chrisitians being a part of what we're doing even more so.

God is very definitely large and in charge. More details to follow :)

p.s. just keep praying for us!

126 hours or 15 minutes http://www.resound.cd/index.php?do=blog&postid=62 If a girl comes to Crusaders all year, thats over 50 hours we have with her. If a 13 year old comes to Bodybuilders all the time that's available to them, we'll be with them for 70 hours over the course of two weeks. If I spend 10 minutes each class talking to the guy with the Rage Against The Machine T-Shirt in my Complex Variables class, thats over 6 hours of time with him.

Phillip was talking to an Ethiopian Eunuch for probably no more than 15 minutes.

Makes you think how well you use your tme.

Get the Ball Rolling http://www.resound.cd/index.php?do=blog&postid=61 We had our first big Bodybuilders Meeting on the 24th of May. I think everyone was amazed by the sheer amount of people in the tiny room upstairs in Kingsway. About 45 of us met together to get the ball rolling for Bodybuilders. We began the afternoon with some worship, which was fairly awesome. We split up into our different belts, to start working out programmes and get praying for all the preparation. If you can, it would be fantastic if you could continue praying for  everything Bodybuilders. In particular, keep the belt-leaders in mind; Elizabeth, Sarah, Dooboy and Mikey.

We want the week of Bodybuilders to be like this. That should be our whole lives, but a couple of weeks in the summer is a start

4 Days of Awesomeness http://www.resound.cd/index.php?do=blog&postid=59 The BMET 2009

Epic!

Crusaders on the Wednesday was great, despite severe complications with a data projector.

During the day, we sent two teams out, able-y led by Fay and Naomi. We had a couple of cleaning projects, which were very smelly at times, but fantastic nonetheless. Like previoius years, we spent a lot of time down in the local estate, Areema. Even though we're only down there once or twice a year (ashamedly), all the kids remembered us, running down the street to greet us each time we arrived. Please pray that we can build upon some fantastic relationships in that area.

We had resound three nights in a row, which was great. Highlights included an ice cream parlour, nail bar, mental pea fair (w/ V.I.Pea Room. spiders maze, random verses, card-games, leader auction and sock licking), quiz and lots of other things to boot. We finished each night with some worship, which was amazing when a few of the guys, including some unexpectecd ones, stayed behind to sing with us.

The general consensus however, was that the highlight of the week was the great example set by some of the girls who were helping out. With their boundless enthusiasm, energy and happiness, it was evident that God was at work in them.

The whole week was planned by Scarf, Teresa and Noel, with meetings and shopping done before. However major kudos have to go to Scarf who was the main driving force behind it all. He did a great job and it was pretty obvious he put it completely in God's hand. Without him and Him, it wouldnt have happened.

If you get a free couple of minutes, why not have a wee chat with the Big Guy. If you could ask if he could send His Spirit down to us, it would be much appreciated. We want to move forward as much as possible from the great things that happened over Easter. We all know it won't be possible unless we're moving forward with God.

Cheers =)

Ellipses http://www.resound.cd/index.php?do=blog&postid=58 Tue, 31 March 2009 15:54:00 GMT http://www.resound.cd/index.php?do=blog&postid=58 Noel McIlvenny I'm Biased http://www.resound.cd/index.php?do=blog&postid=57 Morning/Evening/Afternoon to whoever may come across this.. Fay here. I must admit I'm not to sure on why I am writing this, to waste time maybe and give you a break from Noel's rants =)

I'm not too sure on what to write. Name any word and I could make pages of notes in relation to it but when I don't have a word it's a problem....

I will talk about Resound in a sec. Give you an honest load down of what it is, what we do and why. I do try to remain pretty level headed when summarizing Resound and all its doings but I must admit despite my best efforts I am biased but I'll try my best.

Firstly: It is a laid back Christian run youth organisation, placed in Dunmurry.
I underline Christian because that is what we teach.
I say run because the leadership team are Christians and a lot of the people we reach out to are not.

Our goal will vary on whom you talk to out of the team.
Some would say our aim is simply to do everything we can to promote Jesus; others would say to show people the right direction and to help them down that ‘path'. And so on... there's no right answer. I reckon they're all pretty accurate. Feel free to leave a comment and correct me if I'm wrong but most churches have a similar goal, I mean Christianity does in general. So all churches should have a similar aim, right?

Personally, I think Resound tries to cover everything it's meant to and more. We try to:
Make connections within Dunmurry. Share the word of God. Get alongside the youth/teens. Relate to them. Build Relationships. Create a foundation within the community. Enhance relationships with God. Accept everyone. Grow and expand. Teach the children, spend time with them. And most importantly learn from experience and build our relationships with God and each other.

Secondly: We are all young (Even Tee).
We have an unbelievable amount of support a lot of it I think we take for granted but in saying that we are thankful for the help we get.

We are independent.

We are young.

The Leadership team ranges in age. Between the youngest and oldest, saying that Naomi is the youngest and Teresa is the eldest. That's 8 years I think. Which isn't much.

AND

Our overall leader Noel is only twenty. So I mean, we are pretty young and although can be seen in a negative light I'm asking you, whoever you are, to believe me, it's a positive thing. There are many, many times we struggle to handle things but not because of age and as I said earlier we have help from many older, wiser people so IF we ever need them they are there.

Thirdly: We have enthusiasm.

We are no different from other young adults. We are laid back, sometimes arrogant, cocky and no doubt the odd time bit of a smart ass BUT we have the drive.

We have the enthusiasm.

The inspiration.
And God.

Which leads me on smoothly to what we do. Read slowly, there is a lot to take in, I'll simplify it.

**********

On Microsoft Word I have written two pages alone, size 10 and if you are still reading, I'm impressed and to reward you for your effort, I'll conclude.
Resound isn't perfect. Nor are the people within in it (although some would argue that). We also have our high points and low points and often it seems we are stuck in the negative,
BUT
That is what makes us different. We are a family. We make mistakes, admit them and move on in God or at least try.

We are teenagers with a raw passion, a goal, an aim and purpose. Even if you don't believe in ‘Christianity Crap' again I challenge you come by some night to Resound or Restoration. Judge us for yourself, as I said I'm biased, so come and prove me wrong =)

Times and dates are on the website (calendar).

God Bless and see you soon,
Fay =)

just a wee link http://www.resound.cd/index.php?do=blog&postid=56 You will have to open this blog up properly, to click the link. I've started my own blog here, so if you have some time to kill, you can have a look at that. I'll still be posting up here regularly aswell though.

And just a wee thought; [which I kind of stole from David],

Sing to the Lord, you saints of his;
       praise his holy name.

For his anger lasts only a moment,
       but his favor lasts a lifetime;
weeping may remain for a night,
but rejoicing comes in the morning.

 Amen to that
